I'm getting a chatter/rattle at the outdrive w/engine running.
and odrive trimmed up (in neutral) gets better when i lower the drive. also hear it worse while turning sharp.
  
 is it? gimble bearing or drive shaft possibly?
what do you advise.

the gimbal bearing and u-joints are the problem.. Pull the stern drive off and inspect and or replace the u-joints and or gimbal bearing..With the drive off you can look right at the bearing in the transom assembly..and th ujoints are on the shaft of the drive..
