Boat Repair - engine coupler

Expert: Everett Peacock - 11/30/2008

Question
I have 2003 260 mercruiser I/O. My marina mechanic is telling me the engine coupler let go and needs replacing is this a costly repair and where is the coupler located.

Answer
the engine coupler connect to the flywheel and the shaft from the drive goes in it..the engine must be pulled if it is bad...if it is bad with the drive in gear you can move the prop..there are splines that connect the two....they fail from misalignment, age or lack of grease...
