Boat Repair - boat steering

Question
I'm new at this game, so pardon the basic question.  How do you disconnect the steering cable that pushes/pulls the bar on my outboard, from the steering mechanism connected to the steering wheel.  I have a very standard model with a sort of pin that slides in place where the cable meets the mechanism, but then I can't figure out how the cable should be extracted.  Oh yeah, and any good ideas for pulling a really stuck steering wheel?

Answer
there are different styles, rotary and rack...if it is rotary, press the pin in while trying to move the cable assy. if it is rack then there should be 4 bolts to remove the rack....on the wheel, spray the shaft with 666  remove the nut just to the end of the shaft, so the threads are still in the nut, have someone pull on the wheel and hit the shaft...at the same time..
