Question
hi...i have a 1996 Johnson 150hp. motor was parked for the winter. recently check on motor and notice tilt/trim was raised all the way up. like the motor was stuck in mid-air. i tried to lower it with tilt and trim switches on the outboard motor and on the throttle shift knob..i can hear the tilt and trim motor winding but the motor just stay locked in the air..i also tried loosening the reservoir tank plug on the tilt and trim motor..but that does nothing..can you please help me on how to have it working again?

Answer
On the side of the clamp bracket you will see a valve with a slot in it. Using a LARGE screwdriver loosen this valve two turns. This is the manual relief valve and will allow the engine to go down, you may have to push a bit.
Grease the fittings in the front where the steering goes through. Make sure the trim is full of fluid, with the engine tilted up it should be even with the bottom of the hole, use Dexron ATF.
Once down snug the valve back up and try the trim, you may have to trim up and down a few times if air is in the system.
