Question
I have a 1996 bayliner with a 3.0.My trim will not move up or down.I use it june 07, and trim it up and stored it, have not use it since.I pulled lines off cylinders and hit the up trim, shot oil out.Same with down.Even stood on it.
Acts like it just stuck. What do i try next.

Answer
Can you hear the trim motor running when you push the button?  Check the fluid in the reservoir and make sure it isn't low.  If the fluid is low, it may be vapor locking the trim pump.  If the fluid is ok and the pump is running, does the trim motor sound like it is bogging down?  Like the sound it makes when it is trimmed all the way up and you keep holding the button.  If it is bogging down, it will make a low grumble sound rather than a higher pitch buzz.  You may have a stuck valve inside the trim system.  If you give me a little more info, i will look at some diagrams at work tomorrow and be able to tell you how do dig deeper into the trim system if you need to.

Expertise

Basic boat motor mechanics or boat wiring. I can help the most on mercruisers, merc outboards, and johnson evinrude outboards.

Experience

Mercruiser tech. Started working on boat motors three years ago. I have limited shop time under my belt but have proven myself in our shop and am now the shop manager.

Organizations
I have a mercury tech number and a yamaha tech number if you would like, but i don't think that being a certified tech makes you a good diagnostic pro.

Education/Credentials
Three years of see and learn shop time. Two weeks of tech training at Mercuiser school at Springfield. Two update merc schools at Topeka KS. "gotta love George". Tons of "E" skills classes online. Most of my ability to diagnose came from shop time working out problems.
