Boat Repair/1996 Mercruiser 3.0LX Exhaust Repair

QuestionHi, I have a 96 Searay, with a Mercruiser 135 3.0LX engine. Two years ago, shortly after we bought it. I noticed some pin holes in the exhaust that were shooting out water when the engine was running at higher speeds. We took it to the repair shop and were told we needed to completely replace the whole exhaust as well as a few other repairs on the lower unit. They gave us a $1300+ estimate to fix everything, just before Christmas. So, I told them to fix the issues with the lower unit, but hold off on the exhaust. I didn't have the money, still don't really. We'll it is now two years later, and we have decided we need to just cut bait and get the thing fixed and sell it. (sorry for the long back story) My question is, how much can I expect to spend on getting the exhaust replaced and whatever other issues may have arisen from it sitting for two years? The marina did completely fog the engine for me and wrapped the areas where they removed the rusted exhaust pieces in plastic. Is this going to be a lost cause, should we try to get the exhaust pieces and a manual and install ourselves. Or should we just try to sell the boat as is, because we will never get out of it, the money we spend repairing it to sell as a working boat? Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide. Sincerely, a guy who feels like he is shoveling money into a black hole.
AnswerReplacing the exhaust manifold and elbow is pretty straight forward..I would get a manual and the parts and try to do it yourself..it is not a hard job just takes some time..if they fogged it then they more than likely added fuel stabilizer so you should be ok..
