Boat Repair/Mercury Outboard flooding

Question
Hi Mr. Wethered,
My husband has a Mercury outboard motor. It started flooding. We were out fishing and on our way back to the landing the motor just stopped and wouldn't start again. He's not very good at troubleshooting when it comes to outboard motors. Where do we start to find out what it wrong with the motor? It's a 115, inline 6 cylnder Mercury. We are not exactly sure what the year model is but we were told by some friends it's in the 1970's

Answer
Hi Jessica,

your the first person to call me that!

What you need to do is clean the carburetter with spray cleaner, to start with. Also change the fuel for new if the outboard hasn't been used in a while. Check the spark plugs too.

Good luck

Chris
