Boat Repair/tilt/trim

Question
Hi Chris I have a 1985 merc cruiser 189hp in/out board. The problem I am having is the tilt up/down isn't working. When I press the button all that happens is a clicking noise back on the pump. The battery is good. Might you have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Colin,

you need to do a maintenance overhaul on the wires and trim limiting indicators plus indicator switches are exposed at the water line. They maybe corroded, loose etc. If you find they are then give them scrap to get rid of the rust and then repaint. The hydraulics themselves should be fine because they are sealed away out of harms reach.

Best Wishes
