Question
I have a 1979 140hp outboard Evinrude. When the motor is running I have gas shooting out of the carburators. Do you know what could be causing this and how I go about fixing it? Thank-you in advance for taking the time out to help me.

Answer
the needle valves in the carbs are stuck open,  pull the carbs off and dissasemble them and clean, install parts in the rebuild kits and reinstall...
it ussaly happens when fuel is left in the carbs over a period of time...when storing the engine always run it out of fuel..
