I had same problem with 1984 Mercury 40hp. You can troubleshoot missing on one cylinder, First be sure you are getting spark to cylinders, if so check compression, should be withinh54oc

10 per cent of each other. If compression and spark good, probably fuel problem.If one not firing, suspect coil. To test coils, switch hot wire on coils from power pack, if nonfiring coil fires and firing coil does not, then problem is power pack more than likely, it is surely not the coils.
