Boat Repair - Mercruiser Trim

Expert: Everett Peacock - 2/23/2009

Question
I have a mercruiser i/o. I can trim the outdrive down, but no response when trying to trim up. I can cross the 2 large poles on the selenoid and it comes up fine. Does this mean the selenoid is bad?

Answer
crossing the two big poles just bypasses the solenoid...when voltage is applied to the small post, not the one that has a ground but the other one, it should activate..try that at the unit first..see if you have voltage there when trying to go up..if you do, then the solenoid is bad....
