Boat Repair - oil everywhere

Expert: Martyn Fryer - 3/8/2009

Question
Hello,
I was out on the boat last night when i lost almost power while underway. I took the motor out of gear and looked in the engine below deck. Oil was everywhere but still running. I shut her down before it locked up. Looks like the oil came somewhere around the fuel pump. She is a 1996 7.4l 454 MPI Gen 4. Before I pull the engine, have you ever hesrd of this?
 Thank you
    Jeremy

Answer
Hi Jeremy

Unfortunately I deal with construction & deck maintenance but it does sound like the seals or one of the seals has gone the problem now is to find out which one but most mechanics should be able to identify it and let you know the extense of the damage, size & such
Sorry I could not be more help

Thanks & regards

Martyn
