Boat Repair - gimble bearing replacment?

Expert: Everett Peacock - 6/18/2009

Question
I just bought a 1984 grady white overnighter 20 with a mercruiser 470 with a Alpha 1 outdrive it has a loud noise at the top of lower unit hear it may be the gimble    bearing going bad is it hard to  replace?

Answer
if the noise is at the top of the stern drive then it is the top bearing in the drive going bad.. if it is in the transom assy then it is the gimbal....drive must be pulled and the bearing must be pulled out..a new one installed and lined up with the coupler....
