Question
hi ,i have just been told by the machanic that i have water entering the bottom 2 cylinders and the compressions 125, 125, 125, 75. the motor runs ok, it an  mercury 500 50hp thunderbolt blue band 2 stoke, early 80's i think , a bit doughy and idles rough but havent had a problem. would the water and low compression be related to the same problem, eg, gasket or cracked head, would it be worth fixing and what are the reasons it could be leaking and how many gaskets are there that it could be leaking from. cheers, dave

Answer
Sounds like the exhaust plate is leaking ...a hole in the plate..it is on the port side of the motor....If you keep running it like it is..it will blow up...the water washes the piston off and causes it to scuff the cylinder....there is no head or head gasket....powerhead gasket and crankcase gasket.. thats it...
