Question Everett, My step dad just bought a 88' bayliner with 85 hp merc he says runs great but wont shift out of forward! want me to work on it, I just want to get a feeling on to expect. He doesnt think it's linkage
Answer on the shift sfaft in the lowerunit there is a ramp, that moves with the shaft..when the ramp comes up it dissengages the reverse lock, on the trim rod...in reverse it activates the reverse lock on the trim rod...with the boat on the trailer you should be able to move the reverse lock easly...check it out...
