Question
my 1994 mercury mariner outboard engine would not take gas most of the times when trying to get boat on plane. And when it does take gas, the rpm increases very, very slowly. How is this corrected?

Answer
you need to find out if it is a fuel or spark problem...when trying to get on plane hit the choke to see if it changes anything.. if it trys to pick up then clean the carbs... if no difference it could be spark...check the stator voltage..at cranking speed low side should have 50 or more ac volts and high side ,150 or more ac volts..
