Question
QUESTION: Can you help me determine where the bolts are to remove a starter from a 1989 Mercruiser 140 HP Alpha One?

Here is the starter model # 50-806965A4

ANSWER: there are two bolts that hold it in place. They are on the bottom facing up.

QUESTION: Thx. Did that yesterday and will rebuild starter. I now have to replace the bellows (I Think). Water is coming in to the bilge at a pretty good rate so I assume it is a bellows. How much time do you think it would take and do you think a weekend mechanic can handle, also I think I would need a couple special tools.

Answer
first check your shift cable bellows..from the back of the boat, on the right side there a cable tah goes thru the transom assy. and thru a bellows...with drive up have steering wheel all the way to the left. You should be able to see it then... and yes you will need a special tool to remove and install new cable...
When replacing the cable the drive must be off..
it is about a two hour job ..
