What is the sequence on how to connect the wires from the motor to the alternator. I just purchased a new alternator for my boat. The motor is a 1982 305 228hp inboard motor. It has 3 wires.

there is no special sequence to connect the wires because the battery must be disconnected before you attempt any repairs in the electrical system.  There are several styles of alt. used thru the years.. You have to use the same style.  Three wires ? two wires ?? or four wires  ??
