Boat Repair/Steering problem

Question
I'm looking to buy a 1994 Sprint Bass (fish & ski) boat, FS 287 model, 18.5 ft, with a 150HP Johnson. The steering is extremely stiff. If the cable needs replacing, how difficult is it? Can I still get one for this old boat, which has been discontinued many years ago? Is this a common problem? Any estimate on repair cost?
I appreciate your answer to this.

Answer
it is a common problem with older units.  the tilt tube and the cable system needs to be replaced...must pull off the boat to replacew them....steering system,  275.00  tilt tube 150 +-  steering come in a kit steering helm and cable...only thing not replaced is the steering wheel...
