Boat Repair/Disengage and trim problems

Question
I recently bought a 1979 19ft Caravelle I/O with a 898 Mercruiser 305 chevy and which I think is an Alpha 1 lower unit my problem is similar to the question posted last month about the neutral problem. When I engage forward everything is fine but sometimes not all the time when I go back to neutral it does not disengage to neutral it remains under power (thankfully this was discovered on trailer during lube maintance) buy moving the throttle back and forth it sometimes disengages. Is this a cable or kill switch issue or something more severe?
Secondly my power trim (Serial# 5237138)does not move I can hear the motor running and a faint clicking sound as if it is stuck will not go up down in or out is this a poor connection, lube issue? Can't find a resevior for any fluid or lube.

Answer
it sounds like the neutral switch is not working correctly....the switch only activates when there is a strain on the cable as in shifting....momently kills the engine.. the clicks you hear are probly the relays..tilt motor is more than likely locked up...
