Question
QUESTION: When i turn my key on without starting, my motor kicks, when i try to start it, it fires and dies, could my coil be on its way out, its a 1976 65hp mercury. I just rebuilt the motor and it was running OK, but was not charging battery so i checked the stator it had a broken wire, replaced it and when i started it up again i had this problem, plus i here what sound like spark from coil

ANSWER: sounds like the stator output is too low...should be 150 volts or higher...

QUESTION: my motor has a distributor and i here you don't need the stator hooked up to run motor long as i got full charge in battery

the stator wich is under the flywheel does two things..  1. it charges the battery..two yellow wires..   2. it  charges the powerpack with AC volts...   the dist is that style engine's trigger or sensor coil ...it is not under the flywheel like engines that have no dist. ...
