Question
Everett,
I have an 04' mercury 115 hp outboard. During flushing I noticed that the idle would drop, the engine will then pop and idle would increase back to normal.   Is this normal?  I was informed that this motor will go from running on 4 cyclinders to 2 cylinders during flushing.  Was I informed correctly?  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
some 2 stroke models did have the feature of at idle speeds it would run on 2 cylinders and when you give it the gas it runs on all 4..  the two carbs do not have idle circuts in them...
but the pop is a lean pop..with is not normal...carbs are dirty...
