Boat Repair/Pontoon Boat Speedometer

Question
Everett,
Hello. I have a 1998 Premier Pontoon boat with a 50 HP Evenrude 2 cycle outboard engine. I bought the boat used from a dealer and the speedometer never worked. Recently I had a wiring problem with the boat and waded underneath it and found the speedo tube hanging amongst the wires. I fixed the wiring problem and went looking for where I connect the tube to get the speedo working. Does it connect somewhere on the engine? I also own a MasterCraft Ski boat and the speedos have pick-ups on the back of the transom independent of everything else. Can you help me with my search?

Thanks,
Mark

Answer
Mark,
the engine came with a speedo pickup in the lower unit...there should be a coupler at the engine to connect the hose to the gauge..
make sure the pick up hole is not clogged... use a paper clip to make sure... the other kind of speedo pickup is a ..Pivot it mounts to the transom.
