Question
I am looking for some info. regarding my outdrive. I have a OMC book but the drive for the years does not match up. It is a motor screw drive with a transom boot. The drive is light grey and the shifter cable passes through the upper to the lower drive. You can pull 4 screws out of the upper and the lower drops out except the cable holds it in place. I just can not find any pictures of the drive that look even close. I was told it was an OMC but I was just recently told it was some other manufacturer. The lower stopped going into gear so I thought the cable needed to be replaced or adjusted.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Answer
WhaT YOU HAVE IS EITHER A 400 OR 800 series Stringer OMC stern drive, around 85,86 Omc came out with the cobra drive.   You have a stringer...the cable you are talking about goes to a juction box on the back of the engine..correct ??  I have done those cables before, a long time ago..lol..
With the correct manual you should be ok..  good luck..
here is the drive
