Questioni have a few questions.
1. i don't have any power during take off. it idles just fine but the minute you try to take off it bogs and barely gets moving. i replaced the plugs, the wires were new a couple years ago, and the cap didn't look that dirty or bad. any ideas?
2. i was messing around in the lower unit when the lower half separated from the top half via the shift linkage their. i tried to put it back together but now when i run it its constantly in reverse! even when the lever is in full throttle forward. how do i adjust that back to normal???
3. also in the lower unit, top half, i have a gasket or something that went bad. when i fill the top with gear lube, it comes out of a little hole in the lower half? what gasket is this, or how do i go about finding and fixing this issue??? Thanks for your help
Answerfirst you say it idles ok, is it cutting off when you try to give it the gas with the boat in forward ??
If it is all of your problems may be from one thing...That engine has a neutral kill switch, it momentarly kills the engine when coming out of gear to relieve the clutch dog and gears to shift easely..
as for the shifting...the two units must be in the same gear, forward, when assembled as well as the drive if it is off the boat...the upper and lower were not in forward when it was put back together...
the oil leak....you fill it from the bottom plug untill it comes out the top one, tighten that one and then put the bottom one in, if you don't you can get an air pocket in the drive and it will fail...the hole that it the oil is coming from, tells me that the seal under the waterpump has gone bad..
