Question
QUESTION: Tracker 60hp, It will start and run fine, but if I run it a 75% or better for a little while then I move the throttle back the motor dies loses all fire to the plugs, wait 20 minutes it starts up and runs fine, until i retard the throttle and it happens agains. I suspect stator under flywheel is over heating, thanks for any help. Flywheel gets pretty hot what could be causing it to get so hot? water pump and flow is normal.

ANSWER: yes it sounds like the stator is going bad...or a pack...you need to do a ac voltage check coming out of the stator...there is a high side witch should be 120 ac volts and higher and a low side of 30 to 60 ac volts....it is tested with a peak voltage meter.. if the voltages are correct then replace the power pack..

QUESTION: If a pack was going I always thought it just went bad, when it happens there is no fire to any plug. Why do think that it runs fine as  long as I don't move the throttle?

Answer
Power packs can fail when warmed up or at any time in between.  That is why you test all the componets that can be tested.   There is no test for the powerpack..   Both items are not cheap...  But from experience more than likely the stator is the problem but the output voltage from the stator will give you the answer....
