Boat Repair/stalling out

Question
I have a 1987 evinrude 150xp and stalls after a few minutes at 3/4- full throttle with no beeps or indications of problems, just dies. i've been told by a mechanic that he does not reccomend rebuilding the vro fuel pump cause its very difficult and should instead put a vacuum tester between tank and pump and pressure tester between pump and motor.
Question: what kind of vacuum tester is necessary for hooking up to a fuel line and can i use a combo vac/pressure gauge to do so? also is there anything else you can think of causing my problem? Thanks, Jared

Answer
rebuilding the vro pump can be done but do it carefully ...  When running the engine and it trys to die, hit the choke and see if it makes a difference... also pump the fuel bulb when it dies...it pumping the buld keeps it running then I woul check out the vro pump...  any gauge will work, auto vac and pressure gauge... but try the things I said and it may not be needed..
