Question
Hi Ive got a motor that we had to replace the lower unit in this spring due to the case freezing and cracking. Every since we restabbed (the new case was repacked professionally) the lower unit it has forward but no reverse when in the lake. when you put muffs on it or lower it into a drum of water it goes into reverse fine. I heard that the shift fork has to be in neutral when you connect it and that this might be the problem because I moved the hand controls out of neutral just a little to connect it,could this be the issue? thanks

Answer
first do a shift cable adjustment on it.... put the control in neutral then go back to the engine and remove the shift cable from the engine...move it from forward to reverse then neutral.  at that time adjust the cable so it fits in correctly... then try it again...
