Question
I have a 85 Chris Craft with a recently replaced (6/10) Chevy 350 and Mercruiser 888 outdrive. It is continually overheating. I have replaced the thermostat. With a water boot on and engine running, I have water coming out of the exaust. It is pulsating coming out.  It is an open, seawater system, I am guessing. I am new to I/O, I have spent many hours on outboards. I just need help knowing where to start.  Should I go ahead and replace the impeller and work my way forward?  Thanks, Chris.

Answer
replace the water pump as a kit,  housing, gaskets, impeller, wear cup.. If it has not been changed then it should not have a sea water pump,  they are mounted on the engine, You have a water pump in the stern drive..should be replaced every two years....do that first..
