Boat Repair/Prop Shaft

Question
How do you take a prop shaft from a 1983 Yamaha 150cc outboard motor? The gears are stuck and boat couldn't be put in neutral. Prop would not turn. We have removed the lower unit, taken water pump off, but we cannot remove either shaft. The prop shaft opening has a tabbed screw in keeper with an arrow that says off, showing which way to turn to remove. We have only been able to turn it about 1/2 inch. Please help.

Answer
that is a gland nut...remove the lock tads and unscrew the nut.. then pull carrier out.. best thing for you is to get a used or new lowerunit for it.....I am not which units fit it... you need the model number if the engine... will be sometyhing like   150 ELTD
