Good day;

I have a 70 HP Evinrude VRO with ignition issues the
Serial number VE70TLESB.

I was not able to start the engine. I checked the compression on the three cylinders which varied from 120 to 115 psi.

I checked the sparks on the three cylinders and they were barely visible.
I changed the plugs and results were no better.
I added dylithium grease hoping that this would improve the spark and that didn't change anything.

I was told to try by passing the rectifier. I did that and what a difference. The spark was almost like a lightening bolt.

I was able to easily start the engine on several occasions.
BTW I ran the engine with muffs with water to make sure there would be no engine damage.

I ordered a new rectifier and reinstalled it exactly the same way the old one was installed and I get no spark.

I tried by passing the rectifier again and this time I got no spark
on any of the cylinders.

Any suggestions?

the ighition systen is as follows....Flywheel, has magnets in it, charge coil, stator under the flywheel.  sensor coil also under the flywheel,  power pack, ign cil, spark plugs, ignition switch...
You have to check the output volts from the stator coils and the sensor coils.. it they are good and the ign switch is good then the pack is bad...

Should have 03 to 8 volts DC peak voltage meter. on the sensor coil.  110 and above for the stator...

All the recitifer does is change ac volts made with the stator coil in to a 12 volt dc voltage to charge the battery.. some tachometers read off of one of the two yellow wires..
