Boat Repair/Trim unit solenoid replacement

Question
Hello Everett
You helped me out recently with a recommendation for a remote console for my 1998 Chapparal LE180 and I thank you. However, when installing it and testing the trim and tilt switches, I found that the up solenoid on the trim hydraulic unit is bad. I need to replace it and would just as soon replace both of them. It appears to be a dual setup. I am enclosing 2 pictures that I hope will help you identify the part I need. Please advise.
Thanks in advance!
Joe
AnswerCan't really tell from the picture...but, there are two solenoids on the trim pump, one for up and one for down, and yes i would replace boath at the same time however there is a trim limit switch on the drive to stop you from triming it up too far under power.. those wires are know for corroding out... If you try the trailer switch and it goes up but not with the trim switch then the limit wires are broken... on the transom assembly there are four wires coming out the drive.. two are the limit switch and the other two are for the trim gauge... the gauge wires connect to the wiring harness of the engine at the back and the other two go to the trim pump... If you connect the two that go the pump together it will eliminate the trim limit switch. and it will work fine as long as you remember not to trim it up too far while under way...and then the trim switch will work up and down... if the trailer switch does not work either then the up solenoid is bad... they are mounted one above the other on the trim unit and have a common power supply covered with a plastic cover held on by a philips screw....blue is up and green is down.... good luck...
