Question
Hello Everett, I have a 93 carburated 2 cyl 40hp outboard. Last time out under full throttle it just shut down like the key was shut off. It would not start back up as if overheated. i did notice a slight buzzer noise. Low enough that with the motor running you would never hear it. After about twenty minutes it started back up.Strong, cool water flow though the water tube. Five minutes same thing shut down. Engine does not feel excessivily hot. Did this 6 times to get back to dock. So my question is Does this engine shut down electrically when hot? Or did I do some damage overheating?
I'm hoping its electrical

Answer
the warning system, sounds the horn or buzzer when it overheats, or low on oil..There are no electrical dissconnect for overheating...

When it is cool and you start it do yousee a water flow from the water indicator ??? if not make sure the indicator is clear if it is then the water pump needs to be relaced...

If you continue to run it hot it will do damage to the engine..
