Boat Repair/not cirulating water in 35hp outboard

Question
Chrysler 35 hp 1968, has new impeller everything looks good, ran with lower unit in trash can full of water; will not circulate water.

Answer
the impeller should be replaced first...even tho it looks ok that doesn't mean it is good....after that you need to check and clean the water passages on the side exhaust plate...over time they get corroded up and restrict the water flow...if the engine has overheated in the past there may be a rubber grommet under the powerhead that connects the water tube to the adapterhousing...when they overheat they can melt in to the passage...
