Bodybuilding/Bodybuilding.. Am I doing it right?
Expert: Harry Hayfield - 9/9/2010
QuestionHey there (: Only about four months ago I really got into bodybuilding. I have a regime that targets my upper body and lower body. In a typical workout in the Gym (let's take biceps for example) I would warm up with light weights for a few minutes then continue to progress onto heavier weights (not too heavy) - I would use dumbells and bars. I would do about 5 - 9 sets in the session - in which then I would leave my biceps alone for a whole week. After a workout, I do a maximum of 10-15 minutes straight away - I then take a gram of whey protein per pound of my body weight (80 pounds = 80 grams). I continue to eat protein based foods (fish etc.) as well as normal healthy foods such as porridge. I make sure I have a decent amount of protein before bed (as the body repairs best at sleep, right?) ......... Am I doing everything right to build muscle? I really appreciate it if you could answer this for me :) Thanks!
AnswerThat sounds an entirely reasonable regime. I am a little concerned though about the amount of protein you are taking. A bodybuilder friemnd of mine (aged 63) takes nearly double that and weighs 160lbs off season, 135 lbs contest. I would speak to your protein supplier and just query that you have the proportions of grams to pounds correct.
