Question
hello I am currently a sophmore in college and I am starting to think about internships.  I am majoring in finance and want to be a stockbroker for a firm. I am wondering if it is possible to get an internship when I am a junior next year, or what do they normally look for? I know it depends on the Company, but if you have any info that would be great!! Thanks

Answer
Normally, all it takes is initiative.
Show up with a willingness to work and learn.
There are often many areas within even a small company where someone needs help.  You also have an advantage as some companies wont be taking on new employees, but would be willing to take on a part timer.

Write a resume that speaks to what you want to learn or accomplish.  Find out who to talk to.  Dress nice.  Ask anyone you get in with which areas of the company might be looking for some help.  If the first person doesn't show interest, ask someone else!

Network.  Find contacts through your professors, church, or through friends.  A warm call is always better.

Skill sets like Excel make a huge difference.
