Question
What is the difference in Fixed Income Research and Equity Research?

Answer
Equity research is the study of a company's performance and outlook.
It also is used to determine if the shares (stock) are over or under valued.

Fixed Income Research focuses on company or government debt and ability to pay (retire and service debt).  It's bond oriented instead of stock.
