Question
I am retired and live off of my investments. At
present I have quite a bit of cash having sold
some of my stocks at a profit before the crash.
I am looking for the names of stocks and preferred stocks that pay a nice dividend and have been good safe steady investments.Money mkts are not paying more than 4.5% so am looking for more than money mkt rates to invest in.Any help would certainly be appreciated.Thank you George

Answer
Sorry George,

I work with fixed income bond investments!

I will answer questions about bonds, but would not want to make any specific stock recommendations.  A good broker should be able to recommend high-dividend stocks.

And, I agree with you, there has to be a better return than money market for someone needing a little extra income with moderate risk.

I know funds like Pioneer's PIODX are managed well.  They are down, but seem to weather the storms better than most, and certainly better than individual stocks unless you really know what you're doing!

I'm glad you sold out before the crash.  Another idea is to pick some companies that have traded cheap to where they used to be, BUT USE STOPS TO KEEP YOUR LOSSES from running away.
