Book Collecting - Shakespeare book collection

Expert: Cary Sternick - 9/4/2007

Question
I have a collection of Shakespeares complete works (actually
I have 36 little volumes, and was told there were probably 40
in the original set). The cover page on the right says only
Henry Altemus Company, and under that the word Philadelphia.
Could you please shed any light on this collection? If so,
my family and I would be very appreciative- Thanks, Bob

Answer
Hi. This is a 39 volume set which originally came with dust jackets and was boxed. The books were published between 1899 and 1926 and nothing distinguishes newer from older books. They are very, very common and without the original box or jacket have virtually no value.
