Questiondo you have any knowledge pertaining to Jonathin Edwards Sermon "Sinners in the hands of an angry god" ?
AnswerHi
Actually this is outside my area.
However, any reading of American literature, and mainly early American novels like Charles Brockden Brown's Wieland, is incomplete without reading this sermon. So, am giving it a shot.
Jonathan Edwards belonged to the 18th Century, and is mainly remembered for insisting on confession -- against the wishes of the people of that time.
The current sermon is something of a pet topic for him, and he gave it quite a few times. The sermon is basically a throwback to something like the Old Testament God, and depicts Him as vengeful and fearsome. The most important aspect of the sermon is Edwards' concentrated effort to put the fear of God and Hell into the believers.
Well, all it resulted in was that he lost his post in the Church.
I hope that helps.
