Borzoi/sight hound comparison

Question
Do you think there is much difference in general character traits between a borzoi and a whippet (which I own). ie couch potatoe, quiet, sensitive, healthy, well behaved, and bed hog.
Also do you think good older dogs turn up in rescue very often? Or would a better plan to be to go thru a breeder to get a retired baby if I did choose to adopt an older Borzoi into our family.
thanks~~~.

Answer
The whippet description you gave fits a borzoi very well except they take up a lot more bed space! :-) I think borzoi are generally more laid back than the average whippet. You can go to borzoirescue.org and find out about Borzoi adoptions from Carol Backers the head of the National Borzoi rescue organization. Also you can learn more at borzoiclubofamerica.com which has a link back to the borzoi rescue site. They are very careful about where and with whom they place borzoi because an older dog who has ended up in rescue especially deserves to stay the rest of their lives in very good loving home. I live with two 11 year old borzoi, one 9 year old borzoi and one 2 year old blind borzoi.
Good luck with your research.
