Boston/Newburyport for Singles

Question
I am a 29 year old single female currently living in New York City.  With the economy as it is, I am feeling it is best to move out of NYC.  I have the opportunity to rent a family member's house in Newburyport, MA and I am seriously contemplating this.  Is there a single's scene up there?  I would love to meet someone and people I have talking to tell me making a move to Boston would be much smarter.  I love Newburyport but I want to be sure I would not be too isolated.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  I have very little insight into the area.  Thanks!

Newburyport is a beautiful place, and not terribly far from the city. As far as a singles scene, Boston, obviously, would be much more lively a place as Newburyport is a North Shore town with a great seascape, but not terribly 'active' for singles. It is much more affordable to live in this area, but I would consider Boston if you were making a move.

I've lived in NYC, the West Village, and if I had to compare prices of living to Boston, in the city, it's a bit less than what you pay in NYC for the nicest areas. If you can afford NYC, I would go to Boston, and use NewburyPort as your escape when you need it, as it is only about 40 minutes north of the city by public transportation, shorter by driving.

any thing else, please let me know.

Thanks!

Nick
