Answer
Hi.  Sorry for the delayed response.  I don't know too much about the Boston music scene so I was waiting to hear back from friends of a friend.  Anyway, here's what I found out:
Club Passim in Harvard Sq. has open mic on Tuesdays 8-12.  This is where Tracy Chapman got her start.  Check out http://www.clubpassim.org/passimcalendar
Actually, I found a great listing of open mics in the Boston area at http://people.ne.mediaone.net/sambayer/music/openmikes.html that lists the events by night and has phone numbers.
A smaller list can be found at http://www.abbiegardner.com/mics.html#ma
I think between these 2 sites you should be able to find everything you need.  I haven't personally been to any of them, so I can't make any recommendations, but these lists should keep you busy.

Expertise

I was born in Boston and lived in the `burbs for the first 20 years of my life. I now live in England, but I can hopefully answer most questions relating to Beantown. If not, my dad is a former Boston tour bus driver, so I`m sure he`ll know the answer.

Experience

Two decades living in the area. My father knows most of the historical aspects to Boston.
