Boston Celtics - Robert Parrish

Expert: Alessandro - 1/15/2008

Question
Is it true that Robert Parrish was not recognized by the NCAA as an eligible player for part or all of his career at Centenary College?

Answer
From the article "The NCAA: a Socio-Economic Analysis: The Development of the College Sports Cartel from Social Movement to Formal Organization", by James V. Koch and Wilbert M. Leonard, in the "American Journal of Economics and Sociology" (July 1978):

In 1973, the NCAA declared ineligible Robert Parish, the superb basketball center at Centenary College. Centenary College was placed upon long-term probation for granting Parish a full-ride scholarship.
