Hi David,

before Danny Ainge used #44 in 1981, there were only Hall of Famers. Paul Westphal donned that jersey from 1972 to 1975, Dave Bing used in in the 1977-78 season, and then on hanuary 22, 1980 Red Auerbach signed Pete Maravich for the remainder of the season. "Pistol Pete" only played 26 games as a Celtic, and it was a pity because, should he have  kept his act together for one more season, he would have played with Larry Bird and would have won the long awaited - and never snatched - NBA title.
