Boston Celtics/#21

Questionwho wore jersey #21? Is the reason Ray Allen did not get it because it is retired?
AnswerWell, Ryan,
Ray Allen wore the #34 jersey at Connecticut University, with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Seattle Sonics, so I am sure he would have loved to keep that number. But captain Paul Pierce has been donning the Celtics' #34 jersey since 1998. So, Ray had to choose another number, and he picked #20. I don't know if he would have wanted to pick #21, in any case here's the list of the Celtics players of the past who used it: Jack ("Dutch") Garfinkel 1946-49 (also wore #15); Frank ("Apples") Kudelka 1950-51; Ed (Moose) Stanczak 1950-51 (also wore #19); Andy Duncan 1950-51; Bill Sharman 1951-61; Gary Phillips 1961-62; Jack ("The Shot") Foley 1962-63; John McCarthy 1963-64; Ron Bonham 1964-66. On October 15, 1966, the Celtics honored Bill Sharman (who had played ten seasons with the Celtics - from 1951-52 through 1960-61 - and helped lead the Green to four NBA world championship titles) by retiring his #21 jersey.
I hope this helps
