Answer
That player would be Steve Kuberski, who wore the number "33" for three seasons with the Green (1975-76 through 1977-78) ... The number was vacant and up for grabs by the time Larry Legend made his pro debut in 1979.

As an added bonus, let me tell you that Kuberski actually wore the number "11" for his first five seasons with the Celtics (1969-70 through 1973-74) prior to switching over to "33" ...

As an added ADDED bonus, let me tell you that in franchise history only four players have ever worn the number "33" : Garfield Smith (1970-71 - 1971-72), Ben Clyde (1974-75), Kuberski, and Bird (1979-80 - 1991-92).
