Boston Celtics/buying a share

Question
I heard recently you used to be able to buy a non-voting share of the Celtics.  My husband is a huge fan and I would love to give him a share as a present.  Can you still do this and if so how do you accomplish this?

Answer
Hi, Sarah,

when actual owner Wyc Grousbeck bought the Celtics franchise from previous owner Paul Gaston in September 2002, all individual stockholders were asked to sell their shares back to the Celtics. So, the Celtics are no longer a "publicly traded" professional sports team, and the shares are no longer available.
But I am sure you can find another wonderful Celtics-related gift for your husband: my wife, for instance, for my last birthday brought me an awesome DVD collection with the story of the franchise, and I loved it.
