Question
Did a player named Richard "Bud" Dickey ever play for the Celtics?

Answer
Richard Lea Dickey was a lanky forward from Ringdon, Indiana, and his patented one handed jump shot used to wreak havoc in college basketball in the late 40's. He played for the Boston Celtics in the 1951-'52 season: in 45 games, he averaged 2.8 points per game and shot at a .294 pace. A three-time NCAA All-American, "Dick" Dickey led North Carolina State to the 1950 NCAA Final Four where he garnered an All-Tournament team selection. The only player in school history with four All-Conference selections, he had been selected by Baltimore in the third round of the 1950 NBA Draft, before joining the Celtics in 1951. Unfortunatley, Dick Dickey passed on July 3 at Indianapolis' St. Vincent Hospital from complications of recent lung surgery. He was 79.
