Question
what happened to the C's in the 90's as far as management after the big 3 were gone..

why werent they able to get few players by either trading for them or through draft picks?

why dint the team had a good name coach??

Answer
Well, after the retirement of Kevin McHale (the last of the Big Three) the Celtics were pretty much left high and dry in terms of management, as Paul Gaston (then-owner) was not interested in spending one cent more on the team than he had to ... Plus, when you figure in the fact that two of the supposed future leaders of the team (Len Bias and Reggie Lewis) died tragically before their time, the team was left with a gaping void once their veteran leaders had no more gas left in the tank.

One of the arguments made by supposed "experts" was that Boston should have traded either Parish or McHale before they retired, to get some nice young talent/draft picks from a team desperate for a veteran presence to make a playoff push ... However, Auerbach wished to remain loyal to his marquee stars (it was a tradition for Celtics superstars to retire with the team), meaning he may have hampered the future growth of the team.

As for big-name coaches, Rick Pitino certainly fit that bill when the C's first hired him in 1997 ... However, as we all know, that didn't pan out so well.
